The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders as the 2013 season starts. It will be all eyes on the Blue Deuce as the rubber hits the track during Daytona Speedweeks. Brad will not only have to deal with the pressure of being the reigning Champion but also the pressure of a new car, moving from Dodge to Ford, and also having a new teammate.
Brad Keselowski and his team knew that 2012 was the last year for Dodge in NASCAR, which made his Championship win all that more special. Penske Racing will be moving to Ford in 2013 which means Brad will not only have to get comfortable with the new car but a new manufacturer as well. With as strong as Penske racing is, I don’t see this manufacturer change slowing Brad down at all.
One of NASCARs most promising young drivers is now in the 22 car and Brad’s new teammate. Look for Brad and Joey Logano to share lots of information and work together this coming season. With two strong drivers, Penske Racing as a whole will be a force to be reckoned with in 2013. A teammate like Logano will be helpful when it comes to the super speedways like Daytona and Talladega. Starting out the season with a Daytona 500 win would be a big boost for the Blue Deuce as he starts his run for a second straight Championship.
Brad had 5 wins, 13 Top-5’s and 23 Top-10 finishes in 2012, improving greatly from 2011. With no poles in 2012, this Champion will not be in the Shootout in 2013. Brad also posted 3 wins, 11 Top-5’s and 14 Top-10’s in the Nationwide Series in 2012 and I look for him to have a similar record in 2013. More laps and more track time, in the long run, helped propel him to Championship status in 2012 and will do the same in 2013.
Brad Keselowski is one on the strongest drivers in the field of 43. Almost doubling his wins from 2011 to 2012, it wouldn’t surprise me if he pulled in 5 or more wins in 2013. Moving from a Dodge to a Ford might slow some drivers down but Brad will take this change and make the most of it. The only real improvement Brad and his team needs to make this coming season is qualifying. With three full seasons in the Cup Series, Brad has only posted 2 poles.
Brad may never reach 5-time’s status, but he could sure come close. I look for Brad to make another strong run at the 2013 Cup Championship this coming season
